Fall 2025 marked the unveiling of the National WWI Museum and Memorial’s technology refresh, as well as the new Encounters Exhibition. This exciting opening is the result of collaboration across multiple creative and technological partners, lead by Electrosonic.

The Museum and Memorial is home to the world’s most comprehensive WWI collection, and after decades of operation, it was time for a technical overhaul. This extensive renovation was a collaborate effort, headed by Electrosonic, including contributions from industry leaders such as AV Stumpfl/PIXERA, Christie, Dot Crew, HOLOPLOT, JE Dunn, Nanolumens, Ralph Applebaum Associates, and Technical Artistry.

Christie provided specialty projectors that help consistently display the media throughout Battlescapes, Kemper Horizon Theater and Encounters. Nanolumens LED is used to elevate storytelling through the museum. HOLOPLOT speakers incorporate directional audio beams into the Encounters exhibit, creating a sound bubble around visitors to immerse them in the experience. ISAAC is the AV workflow platform that helps process the data of the museum’s media. Smart Monkeys provided the programming effort to tie all this technology together, making it simple for the Museum and Memorial to maintain and operate the entire AV system.

“It was incredible to work inside the WWI Museum and Memorial. I feel honored to have helped immortalize the efforts, stories, struggles and triumphs of the millions of people affected by The Great War with the use of modern technology. The Museum and Memorial is a national treasure, and I am excited for those who get to experience and learn from it.” Victor Faria, Project Engineer, Smart Monkeys

“Before we began the refresh project, our goal was to make the Museum more immersive. Electrosonic helped make that happen by bringing the technology that made it possible for people to come in and experience the war in a brand new way” – Chris Wyche, VP of Technology, National WWI Museum and Memorial

This technological refresh coincided with the opening of Encounters, the Museum and Memorial’s newest exhibit. Encounters allows you to step into the story of WWI veterans, using a combination of different technologies to create a window into the past.

“The vision for Encounters was really to create a guest experience that was intimate, for visitors to hear stories from WWI. The team on this project has worked together for many years.” Chris Conte, Global Ambassador, Electrosonic

This new exhibit is a showcase of the storytelling capability that technology, innovation, and collaboration can unlock, bringing the stories the Museum and Memorial seek to tell, to life.
